Why they stop selling them
Holding spare parts costs money. Once a model goes out of production, the part usually disappears from the catalogue within a few years. The appliance itself might work for another decade, but one piece of moulded plastic decides its fate.
What can be done
If the broken part still exists, even in pieces, it can be scanned, the model assembled and a new one printed. If only one half of a symmetrical part survives, the other can be mirrored. If it has vanished entirely, I need dimensions from wherever it goes. The same route works for parts for an older car, where the original is simply gone. If the original is snapped and half of it is missing, that is already reverse engineering.
The new one can be better than the original
The original was often made from the cheapest plastic available, because the maker was designing for the warranty period rather than for eternity. A reproduction can use a stronger or more heat-resistant material. Same shape, better durability, a part that doesn't snap next time. Material choice is the whole decision here. When it isn't sensible
If the part carries a heavy load, spins fast or gets hot, it's worth asking whether printed plastic is the right answer. Sometimes it is. Sometimes the right answer is that this part shouldn't be printed, and I'll say so, even when it means there's no order.
How to start
