How big or small can an object be

Three scanners cover three different size classes. The wrong scanner ruins a small part and a large room alike.

The small end

The smallest thing worth scanning meaningfully is about fingertip-sized — a piece of jewellery, a dental model, a small mechanism part. Smaller is possible too, but at that point it's worth asking whether scanning is even the right tool, or whether it's simpler to draw the thing by hand.

The large end

The Matterport Pro3 covers a whole flat in a day and there isn't really an upper limit — a bigger building just takes longer. The object scanners (Einscan H2 and SE V2) suit objects from a few centimetres to a couple of metres, depending on how many positions the scan needs.

Where the choice actually shifts

The line isn't sharp, it's a trade-off between accuracy and coverage. A small scanner gives a large object more positions and more time. A large scanner gives a small object less detail. If you're not sure which you need, send a photo with something for scale beside it — I'll tell you honestly which one fits.
