What actually separates the two
An ordinary printer draws each layer as a line, point by point. A resin printer cures the whole layer at once, across the entire surface. That's where the difference comes from: a resin result is smooth and detail stays sharp at a couple of millimetres, with no visible layer lines. An ordinary print looks good with its layer lines. It doesn't look fine.
When it's worth it
- An architectural model from a project file or a scan of the real building
- A sales model for an apartment building or a development
- A terrain model with real relief and heights
- A district or block model for a planning discussion
- A museum diorama or reconstruction
- Miniatures and collectibles
- Casting patterns and moulds for a jeweller
When it isn't
If the thing has to carry load, survive being dropped, or hold up to kids handling it, resin is the wrong choice. It's beautiful and more brittle than ordinary plastic. A functional part goes on the ordinary printer, which is stronger and only slightly less elegant. If you're not sure which you need, ask — I'll tell you straight.
How it works
Send the project file, if one exists. If it doesn't, the model can be built from a scan of the real building or object instead — the actual thing, not the drawing. Before a run starts, you can order one sample to hold and say yes or no to.
